The greatest principles underlying the greatest art may be found in the proportions of the human figure and in the growing plant.
The principles of design to be found in the architecture of man and of plants have the name "Dynamic Symmetry". __Jay Hambidge
Men have sought to find the patterns and intervals that are also harmonious to the eye. Vitruvius 27 BC wrote in his Ten Books on Architecture, about the harmonic ratios based in Greek Music Theory. As found within the design of man, and used in art and architecture.
To best understand what dynamic symmetry is, it might be better to understand what it isn't by using a comparison.
Symmetrical balance or symmetrical composition is the opposite of dynamic symmetry.
Symmetrical balance is achieved by arranging elements on either side of the center of a composition achieving a weighted balance in an equally weighted manner.
Dynamic symmetry is achieved by an unequal balance, compelling the eye to seek points of interests throughout the composition.
