Pierre Puget started his career early in life at 14

In the port city of Marseille France carving ship heads. He walked to Italy and studied painting. He achieved notoriety in painting before his sculpture. He was successful in gaining an audience and notoriety in Italy. Especially after he demonstrated his skills in sculpture!

He was one of the early Baroque Masters

He was forced to return to France in work in the shipyards. He managed within a few years to return to sculpture. It is difficult to imagine with such interruptions in his life how he could prevail with so many sculptures.
Since I was a young boy he was among my earliest favorites. Absolutely one of my lifelong favorite sculptors! As his portrait shows, he was both painter and sculptor. We can learn much from this great Baroque era artists.
