Canon or Kanon: The word comes from the Greek and refers to the cane, the meter used by the craftsman then the rule, the norm taken as reference element. Knowing the cannons makes it possible to know to what extent an artist complies with them or, on the contrary, detaches them, renews them.
The canon of proportions designates the set of criteria, especially the ratios of the proportions of the human body, which allow the realization of "ideal" statues or the appreciation and the evaluation of the human physique in a given cultural context (place, moment, social environment, etc.). The canons of beauty are therefore fluctuating and variable.
