
Cartouche : 1- Reserved space on a sculpture indicating the title, a legend or the signature. In Egyptian bas-reliefs, the cartouche, which sometimes contains the name of the pharaoh, is often ovoid in shape. 2 - It is also a carved decorative ornament placed on the facade of a building. It can indicate the year of construction of the building, its name, a motto, an epitaph, coats of arms or any motive.
